Abstract

The desire not to have children or referred to as childfree began to spread in Indonesia. One of the reasons put forward is that a high birth rate can result in further destruction of nature because the Earth is no longer able to accommodate more humans. On the other hand, this opinion is opposed by some parties on the grounds of religion which orders families and procreation. We see that both parties still depart from the same assumptions, anthropocentric and rigid division between humans and their culture with nature or often referred to as the nature/culture dichotomy. This article will uncover the problem behind these assumptions and find a middle way by re-examining the issue of the ecological crisis which is the topic of their debate. By outlining the problem of the assumptions on which these two opinions are based, we offer a meeting point between religion and science that is likely to emerge from this childfree debate. The research was conducted by collecting various opinions on the pros and cons of childfree on the internet using the pretext of an ecological crisis and religious argument.
