Author Guidelines

Please carefully follow the guidelines below when preparing your manuscript. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the author(s) for correction before entering the peer-review process, which may cause delays in publication.

Required Word Counts

Please ensure that your manuscript follows the word count requirements:

  • 6,000–8,000 words (Journal Article)

All Manuscripts Must

  • Be submitted in Microsoft® Word (.doc or .docx) format.
  • Be typewritten in English or Indonesian.
  • Use references managed with Mendeley, Zotero, or another compatible reference management application.
  • Cite at least 30 relevant scholarly articles indexed in Scopus and/or Clarivate Analytics Web of Science.
  • Cite at least 20 relevant articles published in nationally accredited Indonesian journals indexed in SINTA 1 or SINTA 2, where relevant to the manuscript topic.
  • Be written in an objective scholarly style. Where appropriate, authors should use “the authors” or “the researchers” rather than “I” or “we”.
  • Be original, scientifically rigorous, relevant to the scope of HEUTAGOGIA: Journal of Islamic Education, and not simultaneously submitted to another journal or publisher.

Required Submission Files for Double-Anonymous Peer Review

HEUTAGOGIA: Journal of Islamic Education uses a double-anonymous peer-review process. Therefore, authors are required to upload a minimum of two separate manuscript files during submission.

No. Required File Content Status
1 Manuscript with Author Details This is the complete version of the manuscript. It must include the article title, full names of all authors, institutional affiliations, country, active email addresses, ORCID iDs where available, corresponding author information, acknowledgments, funding information, author contribution statements, and other required declarations. Required
2 Anonymous Manuscript This is the version used for peer review. It must contain the title, abstract, keywords, main text, tables, figures, references, and appendices where applicable, but must not contain author names, affiliations, email addresses, acknowledgments, identifying funding information, author contribution statements, or other information that could reveal the identity of the authors. Required

Important: A submission will not proceed to peer review unless both required manuscript files have been uploaded. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the anonymous manuscript and any files intended for reviewers contain no identifying information. File names should also not contain author names or institutional identifiers.

Manuscript Organization

Research articles should normally be organized according to the structure below. Headings and subheadings in the manuscript should not be numbered.

No. Section Required Content Status
1 Title The title must clearly represent the central focus of the article. Titles may contain no more than 100 characters. A subtitle, if included, may contain no more than 50 characters. Titles must use title case and must not be written entirely in capital letters. Required
2 Author Information Provide the full name of each author, institutional affiliation, country, active email address, and ORCID iD where available. One author must be identified as the corresponding author. Required
3 Abstract The abstract should concisely present the research problem or background, objective, methods, principal findings, and conclusion. The abstract should be informative and able to stand independently from the main manuscript. Authors must follow the current journal template for specific formatting requirements. Required
4 Keywords Provide 3–6 keywords that accurately represent the main concepts, research context, and subject area of the manuscript. Avoid unnecessary repetition of words already contained in the title. Required
5 Introduction Present the research problem, relevant scholarly context, previous research, research gap, significance of the study, and research objective or research questions. The introduction should clearly demonstrate the manuscript's scholarly contribution to the field of Islamic education. Required
6 Methods Describe the research design, setting or context, participants or data sources, sampling procedures where relevant, data collection, research instruments, analytical procedures, ethical considerations, and procedures used to establish validity, reliability, credibility, trustworthiness, or other appropriate standards of research quality. Required
7 Results Present the principal findings systematically and clearly in accordance with the research objectives or questions. Tables and figures may be used where they improve clarity and should not unnecessarily duplicate information already presented in the text. Required
8 Discussion Interpret the findings in relation to previous literature, theoretical perspectives, and the research context. The discussion should explain the significance of the findings, similarities or differences from previous studies, theoretical and practical implications, and the specific scholarly contribution of the study. Required
9 Conclusion Provide a concise synthesis of the principal findings and their scholarly contribution. The conclusion should directly address the research objectives or questions and may include implications, limitations, and recommendations where appropriate. It should not merely repeat the abstract or results. Required

Note: The organization of conceptual papers, systematic reviews, literature reviews, and other non-empirical manuscripts may be adapted to the methodological characteristics of the study. However, the manuscript must retain a clear scholarly structure, transparent methods where applicable, critical analysis, and an explicit contribution to the field.

Originality and Prior Publication

  1. Originality of manuscripts. Only original submissions will be accepted for publication. Manuscripts may not have been previously published or be simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.
  2. Revised manuscripts. HEUTAGOGIA: Journal of Islamic Education will not publish a manuscript that is merely a revised version of a work previously published elsewhere. A manuscript derived from previously disseminated work must contain substantial new scholarly material and must appropriately acknowledge the related previous publication.
  3. Teaching notes. If authors submit a case study intended for teaching purposes, supplementary teaching notes may be provided as a separate document where appropriate.

Plagiarism and Text Recycling

HEUTAGOGIA: Journal of Islamic Education takes plagiarism, inappropriate text recycling, duplicate publication, fabrication, falsification, citation manipulation, and other forms of research misconduct seriously.

All submitted manuscripts will be screened for originality using plagiarism-detection software and available scholarly databases. A maximum similarity index of 15% is generally permitted. However, editorial decisions will not be based solely on a numerical similarity score. The source, distribution, context, and nature of the similarity will also be evaluated.

Manuscripts containing inappropriate duplication, unattributed material, fabricated citations, falsified data, or substantial reuse of previously published material may be returned to the authors, rejected, or subjected to further editorial investigation.

Titles and Headings

  • Titles. Titles may be no longer than 100 characters. Subtitles, if included, may be no longer than 50 characters.
  • All titles must be entered in title case. The first letter of each major word should be capitalized unless the word is a preposition, conjunction, or article. The first word of the title or subtitle must always be capitalized.
  • Titles may not be written entirely in capital letters. For example, “CHAPTER TITLE” is incorrect, while “Chapter Title” is correct.
  • Headings. Please format all headings according to the current HEUTAGOGIA manuscript template. Headings and subheadings must not be numbered.

References and Citations

All information, concepts, arguments, data, or statements derived from other sources must be appropriately cited. Authors must ensure that every in-text citation appears in the reference list and that every reference listed is cited in the manuscript.

  • References and citations must follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition, in accordance with the current HEUTAGOGIA manuscript template.
  • Authors are required to use Mendeley, Zotero, or another compatible reference manager.
  • The manuscript should cite at least 30 relevant scholarly articles indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science.
  • The manuscript should also cite at least 20 relevant articles from nationally accredited Indonesian journals indexed in SINTA 1 or SINTA 2, where relevant to the manuscript topic.
  • References should prioritize relevant, authoritative, and recent scholarly literature while retaining important foundational sources where necessary.
  • Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy of author names, article titles, journal titles, volume, issue, page numbers, DOI, and other bibliographic information.

For detailed formatting and examples, please see HEUTAGOGIA Template .

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant scholarly contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the study, or who have contributed substantially to drafting or revising the manuscript.

All listed authors must approve the submitted and final versions of the manuscript and must accept responsibility for their own contributions. Authors are also expected to cooperate in resolving questions concerning the accuracy, integrity, attribution, or ethical status of any part of the work.

Authorship Complaints

HEUTAGOGIA treats complaints concerning authorship, contributor status, author order, omitted contributors, or disputed attribution as matters of scholarly integrity. Complaints should be supported by sufficient information for editorial assessment.

If the complained-about author accepts the complaint

The editorial office may proceed with an appropriate remedy, including correction, corrigendum, or retraction, depending on the nature and seriousness of the authorship problem.

If the complained-about author rejects the complaint

The editor will assess whether the response is reasonable, communicate the relevant explanation to the complainant where appropriate, and may request further evidence from the parties involved.

If an author does not respond

The journal may refer the matter to the institution or organization where the research was conducted and request an independent investigation or clarification.

If an institution investigates the matter

The journal will seriously consider the institution's findings while retaining editorial responsibility for protecting the integrity of the published record.

If a funding agency is relevant

The journal may review funding disclosures and, where necessary, contact the relevant funding agency for clarification.

If the parties cannot reach a resolution

The editor will evaluate the available evidence and may recommend an appropriate editorial action to the publisher, including correction, corrigendum, expression of concern, or retraction where warranted.

Authorship complaints are handled confidentially and should be assessed independently from personal, institutional, or commercial interests.

Table of Correction (ToC)

The Table of Correction (ToC) is provided as an editorial document for recording and communicating corrections required during manuscript processing. Authors should use the current document supplied by the journal when requested by the editorial office.
