Author Guidelines

Details and Guidelines to Keep in Mind for Your Manuscript Submission

Please carefully follow the guidelines below as you write. Any manuscripts not meeting these guidelines will be returned to the author(s) for correction, which can cause significant delays in the publication of your work.

Required Word Counts
Please ensure that your manuscript follows the word count requirements

  • 5,000-6,000 words (Journal Article)

All manuscripts must

  • be submitted in Microsoft® Word.
  • be typewritten in English or Indonesia
  • be typewritten the references using "Mendeley or Zotero Application" and please cited the articles in high indexing (Scopus, Clarivate Analytics Web of Science) at least 30 articles and also in a national accredited journal or indexed by Sinta 2 (Indonesia Science and Technology Index) at least 20 articles.
  • be written in objective third-person point of view throughout (Use "the authors" or "the researchers" NOT "I" or "we")

  1. The originality of manuscripts. Only ORIGINAL submissions will be accepted for publication. Manuscripts may not have been previously published or be submitted for publication elsewhere.
  2. Revised manuscripts. Edulab: Majalah Ilmiah Laboratorium Pendidikan/Edulab: Educational Laboratory Scientific Magazine will not publish a manuscript that is a “revised” version of a manuscript you published elsewhere. To be considered original, a manuscript must be at least 80% new material with no more than 200 consecutive words (properly cited) repeated verbatim from any previously published work.
  3. Teaching notes. If you are writing a case study, please provide supplemental teaching notes as a separate document from your manuscript. These notes will be provided to readers interested in adopting your work as course material.
  4. Copyright. For those already familiar with Edulab: Majalah Ilmiah Laboratorium Pendidikan/Edulab: Educational Laboratory Scientific Magazine publication process, please note that PDF copyright agreements are no longer accepted. As part of the manuscript submission process, you and your authors will be asked to sign the Author’s Warranty and Transfer of Copyright Agreement digitally.
  5. Plagiarism. Edulab: Majalah Ilmiah Laboratorium Pendidikan/Edulab: Educational Laboratory Scientific Magazine takes concerns of plagiarism very seriously. All manuscripts are checked for plagiarized passages before being accepted for publication. Please ensure that all information taken from outside sources is properly cited and that all thoughts are composed in your own words. All instances of plagiarism will be immediately returned to the authors for correction and may cause the removal of the manuscript from the publication.
  6. Titles. Titles may be no longer than 100 characters. Subtitles, if included, may be no longer than 50 characters.
    • Note that all titles must be entered in the title case. To put a title in title case, the first letter of each word should be capitalized unless that word is a preposition (position words such as “over,” “with,” or “between”), conjunction (connecting words such as “and” or “but”), or article (“a,” “an,” or “the”). The only exceptions to this rule are that the first word of the title or subtitle is always capitalized, even if it is an article, preposition, or conjunction.
    • Titles may not be written in all capital letters (e.g., "CHAPTER TITLE" is incorrect; "Chapter Title" is correct)
  7. Abstract. No more than 250 words. An abstract is a short summary of a research article, thesis, review, conference, or in-depth analysis on a particular subject or discipline, and is often used to help readers quickly determine the purpose of a paper. When used, the abstract always appears at the beginning of a manuscript or manuscript, acting as the entry point for any academic paper or patent application. The points that need to be included in the abstract are as follows: 1) background of the problem, 2) Research Objectives, 3) Methods, Approaches, and Data Analysis, 4) Research Results (can add novelty or implications from this research).
  8. Headings. Please format all headings as in the below manuscript formatting templates. Heading names within the body of your text may be tailored to the content of the work. Note that headings and subheadings should NOT be numbered (e.g., 1. Introduction, 2. Background, etc.).
  9. Images. A manuscript may include no more than 20 figures. Any figures or tables that do not meet these minimum specifications will be returned to the author(s) for correction. All figures must be submitted as separate files in .tif format. Please also note that the author's responsibility is to obtain permission to use any image currently under copyright by a third party. Please see the image guide for more information.
  10. The Publication Manual of Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition Citations. Please ensure that all information in your manuscript taken from another source is substantiated with an in-text reference citation. A minimum of 15 sources is required for each submission. Please also note that your references must follow The Publication Manual of Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition. (The publisher will return your submission to you for correction if you do not properly format your references.)     • Self-citation. Researchers may need to cite their previously published works to communicate an idea effectively in their present manuscript. While Edulab: Majalah Ilmiah Laboratorium Pendidikan/Edulab: Educational Laboratory Scientific Magazine encourages the use of self-citations in these cases, self-cited works must not account for, at most, 50% of the total references in the manuscript.
  11. LaTex. LaTex files are NOT accepted because they are not compatible with Edulab: Majalah Ilmiah Laboratorium Pendidikan/Edulab: Educational Laboratory Scientific Magazine typesetting program. As an alternative, we require that you use MathType (see “Equations” below).
  12. Equations. If a symbol or equation can be typed directly into Microsoft Word, please do so. Otherwise, we require using MathType to format all equations. Authors can download a free trial version of MathType here:
  13. Copy editing and proofreading. It is crucial that complete copy editing and proofreading of your manuscript be conducted before submission to ensure proper use of the English language, proper grammatical structure, and correct spelling and punctuation. Manuscripts submitted to the publisher are considered to be in their final form and ready for publication.
  14. Translation. However, a manuscript is translated, content submitted to Edulab: Majalah Ilmiah Laboratorium Pendidikan/Edulab: Educational Laboratory Scientific Magazine must be written in clear English with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

Note: The Manuscript Organization and Formatting Template are designed to standardize manuscript submissions and do not reflect how your work will actually appear in print. The format and design of the final publication are at the sole discretion of the publisher.
