The study focuses on two prominent Indonesian scholars, Ustaz Adi Hidayat and Gus Baha. From the various discussions by these two figures on the story of Prophet Adam, this research is limited to videos from three YouTube channels: Adi Hidayat Official, Tafsir NU, and Ngaji Gus Baha Jogja. The aim of this research is to analyze the controversies surrounding the interpretation of the story of Prophet Adam between Ustaz Adi Hidayat and Gus Baha, as well as to understand the ideological constructs presented in these discourses. The research uses a qualitative approach based on a literature study, with primary data obtained from the videos on these three YouTube channels. The analysis of the study employs Norman Fairclough's critical discourse theory, encompassing textual aspects, discourse practice (analysis of the YouTube accounts), and sociocultural practice (external factors influencing interpretation). The results reveal two main controversies: first, the interpretation related to the angels in Surah Al-Baqarah [2]: 30; second, the interpretation regarding the expulsion of Adam and Eve from paradise. Additionally, there are differences in how the story is presented. Gus Baha tends to use a philological approach, while Ustaz Adi Hidayat focuses more on linguistic studies. The analysis of the YouTube accounts indicates that Tafsir NU and Ngaji Gus Baha Jogja tend to support Nahdlatul Ulama, which is based on ahlus sunnah wal jamaah, whereas Adi Hidayat Official leans towards Muhammadiyah, which does not adhere to a single imam. Thus, Gus Baha clearly supports ahlus sunnah wal jamaah, while Ustaz Adi Hidayat does not associate his interpretation with any particular manhaj.
Lubna Harira Amalia, Ahmad Fajri Asshdiqi Copyright (c) 2024 Lubna Harira Amalia, Ahmad Fajri Asshdiqi http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.uin-suka.ac.id/ushuluddin/AJQH/article/view/5678 Sat, 27 Jul 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Transformasi Nāsikh-Mansūkh dalam Pandangan as-Suyūṭī: Respons terhadap Dinamika Sosial dan Kebutuhan Masyarakat https://ejournal.uin-suka.ac.id/ushuluddin/AJQH/article/view/5679
As-Suyūṭī’s reconstruction of the nāsikh-mansūkh concept responds to shifts in social and historical contexts, aiming to maintain its relevance and applicability for Muslims. This study seeks to explore his stance on nāsikh-mansūkh by linking it to the legal reform mechanisms he developed. Utilizing a qualitative method within a sociology of knowledge framework, the research found that as-Suyūṭī’s understanding of nāsikh-mansūkh emerged from synthesizing previous thoughts, adapted to meet the needs of his era. As-Suyūṭī saw nāsikh-mansūkh as a concept born out of the evolving needs for new laws due to contextual changes. This perspective underpinned his argument for issuing various fatwas. This approach took shape in a society facing degradation in various aspects, necessitating new laws to address emerging needs. His pragmatic way of thinking was driven by the specific needs of his time, leading him to reconceptualize issues previously unrelated. This inclination led as-Suyūṭī to reject certain verses classified as nāsikh-mansūkh by earlier scholars, arguing that they no longer met societal needs. His adaptive approach diverged from the traditional thinking of his contemporaries in Islamic jurisprudence, sparking significant polemics and debates.
Aliffia Aswindasari Copyright (c) 2024 Aliffia Aswindasari http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.uin-suka.ac.id/ushuluddin/AJQH/article/view/5679 Thu, 08 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Ketika al-Qur’an Bertemu Modernitas: Penerimaan Pemikir Kontemporer Islam dalam Konteks Kebebasan Beragama https://ejournal.uin-suka.ac.id/ushuluddin/AJQH/article/view/5680
The renewal concepts offered by contemporary Indonesian thinkers on actual issues involve legitimizing their views through the Quran. The approach of validating these issues, such as religious freedom, using various Quranic verses showcases a range of interpretations that can appear subjective and arbitrary. This research seeks to uncover the dialectical relationship between contemporary Indonesian thinkers, specifically Nurcholis Madjid, Abdurrahman Wahid, and Djohan Effendi, and the Quran, which forms a response of meaning to address current issues. Employing a qualitative methodology, the study utilizes Hans Robert Jauss’reception theory for data analysis. The findings indicate that the tendency to use the Qur'an in addressing actual issues is grounded in the compatibility of meaning, using the keywords within the verses that align with the issues being discussed. When suitable keywords are identified in a verse, they are interpreted with a dominance of the initial impression of understanding, primarily based on their linguistic meanings. This uniformity in meaning perception, which emphasizes objective meaning through language, is then applied to the contemporary context. The perception of liberal interpretation arises because the traditional interpretative moment, which mediates various perspectives of past interpreters, is often bypassed. As a result, these interpretative efforts cannot be fully categorized under the concept of contextual interpretation. However, the determination of objective meaning through textual analysis, extended to a new context that incorporates the subjective experiences of each thinker, makes this understanding mechanism not as subjective as commonly assumed.
Moh. The aim of this research is to explore how geographical contexts shape the reasoning and awareness of mufasirs regarding the discourse on Qur'anic historicity. Utilizing a literature review method, the study examines five nuzūlī tafsirs as primary sources, complemented by relevant secondary research. Foucault's theoretical framework and comparative media analysis are employed to investigate the interactions among nuzūlī tafsirs concerning the Qur'an's chronological arrangement, aiming to uncover the underlying factors behind these differences. The findings reveal that historical awareness and the concept of tartīb al-nuzūl in the modern era have led interpreters to reexamine the chronological debates of the Qur'an. Interpreters from the Arab-Syrian context tend to adopt the turaṡ reasoning system to uphold Islamic identity within the global intellectual landscape, while Al-Jābirī, drawing from the French philosophical tradition, critiques this historical reliance through a deconstructive lens. This epistemic confrontation indicates that discussions on the Qur'an's chronological arrangement remain pertinent for reconstruction, with geographical knowledge significantly influencing the diverse reasoning of interpreters.
Aziz Bashor Pratama Copyright (c) 2024 Aziz Bashor Pratama http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.uin-suka.ac.id/ushuluddin/AJQH/article/view/5681 Sat, 10 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700 Dari Esoteris ke Literal: Penafsiran ar-Rāzī terhadap Huruf Muqatṭa'ah dalam al-Qur'an https://ejournal.uin-suka.ac.id/ushuluddin/AJQH/article/view/5682
Discussions about the muqatṭa'ah letters in the Qur’an frequently exhibit a historical bias, focusing predominantly on their linguistic attributes rather than their symbolic or contextual significance. Consequently, many pre-modern mufassirsoften neglect the functional role these letter combinations play, as well as the importance of historical and symbolic contexts in their interpretation. This research seeks to investigate how ar-Rāzī, a prominent pre-modern mufassir, employed context as a key element in interpreting the muqatṭa'ah letters. To achieve this, the study adopts Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis framework, which facilitates an examination of the complex discourse within Mafātiḥ al-Ghaib. The study's findings present two primary conclusions. Firstly, ar-Rāzī uses the association between the muqatṭa'ah letters and the subsequent words to establish five interpretative trends: as an indicator of the book, a symbol of the revelation process, a demonstrative word (ism isyārah), a pronoun (ism ḍāmir), and a symbol of the events represented in the text. This method reinforces the argument that the Qur'anic verses beginning with muqatṭa'ah letters underline the identity of the Qur'an as a revelation. Secondly, ar-Rāzī employs an intertextual approach, integrating his interpretations with the historical and cognitive discourse of his era, particularly through the lens of Asy'ariyah theology, which he embraced. By doing so, ar-Rāzī merges objective elements, such as grammatical functions, with subjective components, focusing on divine authority in understanding revelation. This dual approach allows ar-Rāzī to present an interpretation of the muqatṭa'ah letters that encompasses both esoteric and literal aspects, portraying the Qur'an as a text that is rich in both symbolic and historical meaning.
Laily Salsabila Copyright (c) 2024 Laily Salsabila http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 https://ejournal.uin-suka.ac.id/ushuluddin/AJQH/article/view/5682 Tue, 20 Aug 2024 00:00:00 +0700
