Was Jesus An Anti-Semitic?

Abstract
Di antara empat injil dalam Perjanjian Baru, deskripsi paling negatif tentang orang Yahudi terdapat pada Injil Yohanes. Gambaran negatif Yahudi dalam Injil ke empat ini dinilai oleh beberapa kalangan sebagai pemicu sikap anti-Semitic umat Ktistiani –yang pernah memuncak pada peristiwa Holocolous- dan mengantarkan asumsi kuat bahwa Yesus itu sendiri memang anti-Semitic. Artikel ini mencoba menelusuri pangkal deskripsi negatif Yahudi dalam Iniil Yohanes tersebut dari perspektif sejarah agama-agama, dalam konteks kemunculan "new religious movement" pada era Yesus hidup dan Yohanes menulis Iniilnya. Dilihat dari perspektif ini, deskripsi negatif Yahudi dalam Injil Yohanes lebih ditujukan pada pimpinan agama dan kalangan aristokrat Yahudi yang pada waktu itu memusuhi Jesus, menolak seruan Yesus dan mengeksekusi pengikut Yesus dari Synagog. Berdasar hal ini, asumsi bahwa Yesus itu anti-Semitik menjadi tidak akurat.
