Peran Doomscrolling dan Religious Coping dalam Memprediksi Psychological Distress pada Mahasiswa yang Sedang Menyusun Skripsi
Main Article Content
Abstract
Final-year students writing their theses are vulnerable to psychological distress, such as depression and anxiety. Doomscrolling, the habit of continuously scrolling through negative content on social media to escape boredom, has the potential to increase this distress. Religious coping, as a faith-based strategy involving daily practices, can either alleviate or intensify psychological distress depending on the coping type. This study investigates the influence of doomscrolling and religious coping on distress among 267 eighth-semester engineering students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Respondents were recruited through non-probability snowball sampling. Employing a quantitative correlational design and multiple linear regression analysis. The findings reveal that doomscrolling significantly increases psychological distress, positive religious coping significantly reduces it, and negative religious coping has no significant effect. Effective management of doomscrolling and reinforcement of positive religious coping are essential to mitigate distress in these students.
Mahasiswa tingkat akhir yang sedang menyusun skripsi sering mengalami kesulitan memenuhi tenggat waktu penyelesaian yang ditetapkan perguruan tinggi sehingga berisiko memperpanjang masa studi dan mengalami
drop out (DO).
