Abstract

Artikel ini menyelidiki konstruksi dan transmisi karisma melalui saluran online dan perannya dalam pembentukan identitas keagamaan. Max Weber's mengamati bahwa karisma mendiami hubungan antara seorang pemimpin dan pengikutnya, peneliti berpendapat untuk melihat ulang secara kritis dari model teoretis di abad kedua puluh satu bentuk virtual dari perjumpaan sosial. Peneliti memokuskan analisis pada jemaah muslim di Indonesia dan khususnya pada seorang pemimpin berpengaruh bernama Abdullah Gymnastiar (Aa Gym). Menggunakan digital metode etnografi, peneliti menunjukkan bagaimana Aa Gym mengkonstruksi karisma online dan bagaimana komunitas/jemaahnya secara virtual terbentuk seputar klaim karismatiknya. Peneliti menggambarkan bagaimana secara virtual komunitas ini bersinggungan dengan dunia offline dan menemukan bahwa beberapa media yang dijalankan oleh badan usaha Aa Gym (MQ FM, DPU-DT, MQ Travel dan canal media sosial) dipenuhi dengan gaya karismatik yang khas yang bersinggungan berdasarkan hubungan ia dengan dakwah digital.
