Focus and Scope

Al-Ahwal aims to serve as an academic discussion ground on the development of Islamic Family Law and gender issues. It is intended to contribute to the long-standing (classical) debate and to the ongoing development of Islamic Family Law and gender issues regardless of time, region, and medium in both theoretical or empirical studies. Al-Ahwal always places Islamic Family Law and Gender issues as the focus and scope of academic inquiry.

Peer Review Process

The Chief/Managing Editor will oversee the further handling of the manuscript. They will request a minimum of two scientists to review the research article. Every manuscript submitted to Al-Ahwal undergoes a double-blind review by at least two reviewers. The publication, revision, or rejection of the manuscript is based on their reports and recommendations. If necessary, in certain cases, the editor may submit the article for review to a third reviewer before making a decision.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. This journal is open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to users or/institutions. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to full-text articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or author. This is in accordance with Budapest Open Access Initiative.

Plagiarism Screening

Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are not allowed. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript submitted to this journal is original work and plagiarism free. The authors should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and it is unacceptable. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.

It is the editor’s routine procedure to run all submissions through plagiarism detection software. The result of manuscript screening should be under 25% of similarity. The editor has the right to decline the submission should it exceed the maximum similarity policy. Only manuscript that is free from plagiarism and academic malpractices will be processed for publication. Plagiarism screening is conducted using Turnitin app.

Journal History

Al-Ahwal: Jurnal Hukum Keluarga Islam was first published in 2008. Since 2014, Al-Ahwal consistently publishes 16 research articles in one year (8 articles per issue).

Al-Ahwal continues to develop into a national and international reputable journal. This is evidenced in 2016 to the present, Al-Ahwal has been recognized by the Director General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia (grade 2). Al-Ahwal continues to develop the quality of articles in its volume.

Since its first publication, Al-Ahwal has published mainly manuscripts in the Indonesian language. However, since 2022, Al-Ahwal only receives the manuscript in English with the intention of broadening its readership to international audiences.

Starting Volume 15, Al-Ahwal uses a new template.
