Author Guidelines

Articles submitted to the Editorial Office of Jurnal Moderasi: The Journal of Ushuluddin, Islamic Thought, and Muslim Societies must comply with the following technical requirements:

  1. Manuscripts must be written in English, Indonesian, or Arabic, present original research or high-quality conceptual studies within the journal's scope, and contain 6,000–8,000 words, including footnotes and references. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary approaches to Islamic thought, religion, moderation studies, gender, and contemporary Muslim societies.
  2. Submitted manuscripts must be original, have not been published previously, and must not be under consideration for publication by another journal or publisher.
  3. Every manuscript must include an abstract in English (mandatory) and in Indonesian or Arabic, consisting of 150–200 words, followed by 3–5 keywords that accurately represent the main topics of the article.
  4. Authors' names should be written without academic titles or professional positions. Each submission must include the authors' institutional affiliation, ORCID iD (if available), correspondence address, and a valid email address for the corresponding author.
  5. Arabic words, phrases, and references must follow the IJMES Transliteration System. Detailed transliteration guidelines are available through the journal's transliteration guide.
  6. References and citations must conform to the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th Edition (Notes and Bibliography, Classic Variant). Authors are responsible for ensuring the completeness and accuracy of all bibliographic information.
  7. Authors are required to use reference management software, such as Zotero or Mendeley, to ensure consistency and accuracy in citations and bibliography formatting.
  8. Manuscripts must be prepared using the official Jurnal Moderasi article template. Authors should carefully follow the prescribed formatting, heading styles, tables, figures, citations, and reference layout before submission.
  9. The Editorial Team reserves the right to make editorial revisions concerning language, formatting, style, and consistency without altering the scholarly substance of the manuscript. Manuscripts that do not comply with these technical requirements may be returned to the authors for revision prior to peer review.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors must ensure that the following requirements have been fulfilled:

  • The manuscript is original, has not been published previously, and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • The manuscript falls within the aims and scope of the journal and complies with the journal's Publication Ethics and AI Policy.
  • The manuscript has been prepared in accordance with the Journal Template, Technical Author Guidelines, and Author Guidelines.
  • The submission file is provided in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx), OpenOffice, RTF, or WordPerfect format.
  • All references are complete, accurate, and include accessible URLs or DOIs where available.
  • The manuscript has been anonymized for double-blind peer review, where applicable.
  • The title page includes each author's full name, institutional affiliation, email address, and ORCID iD (if available).
  • All required supplementary materials, declarations, datasets, permissions, or supporting documents have been uploaded where applicable.
  • The corresponding author agrees to respond to editorial communications promptly and to submit revised manuscripts within the specified revision period.
  • By submitting the manuscript, all authors confirm that they have read and agreed to comply with the journal's editorial policies and publication requirements.
