Corrections and Retractions

The Journal of Integrative Islamic Medicine (JIIM) will issue corrections, retraction statements, and other post-publication updates, including Editor's Notes on published content.

The following categories of corrections and post-publication updates apply to peer-reviewed primary research articles, review articles, and certain types of non-peer-reviewed publications. Substantial errors in Supplementary Information and Extended Data are corrected in a manner similar to amendments to the main article. Except for Editor's Notes, all categories described below are bi-directionally linked to the original article and indexed where supported by the relevant indexing services.

Author Correction

An Author Correction may be published to correct important errors made by the author(s) that affect the scientific integrity of the published article, the publication record, or the reputation of the authors or the journal.

Publisher Correction

A Publisher Correction may be published to correct important errors made by the journal that affect the scientific integrity of the published article, the publication record, or the reputation of the authors or the journal.

Addendum

An Addendum is generally published when significant additional information that is essential to readers' understanding of an article becomes available after publication.

Editor's Note

An Editor's Note alerts readers when the journal has initiated an inquiry in response to concerns raised about a published article. It is an online-only update, made to the HTML version of the published article's record, and is not indexed as a separate publication.

Retraction

An article may be retracted when the integrity of the published work is substantially undermined by errors in the conduct, analysis, or reporting of the study. Violations of publication ethics or research ethics may also result in retraction.

The original article will be clearly marked as retracted, while its PDF version will remain available to readers as part of the scholarly record. The retraction statement will be bi-directionally linked to the original published article. Retraction statements will generally indicate whether the authors agree or disagree with the retraction.

Procedures for Post-Publication Corrections

When corrections are made to published articles, the journal will, in most cases, update the original article in both PDF and HTML formats. The corrected article will be bi-directionally linked to the published amendment notice, which explains the nature of the original error.

To ensure transparency, when changes to the original article affect data presented in figures, tables, or the main text, such as changes to data points, error bars, or graphical curves, the amendment notice will reproduce the original data so readers can identify and understand the corrections.

When it is not possible to correct both the HTML and PDF versions of the original article, such as in older publications for which the original files are no longer available, the article will remain unchanged but will include bi-directional links to the published amendment notice.
