The armed conflict in Syria began in March 2011and has murdered many victims and millions of people
have fled. During the conflict that occurred during the
Arab Spring in the Middle East region, there were
indications of infractions of Geneva Convention IV
1949. The infractions lead into violence acts involving
children in, such as murdering, torturing, sexual
violence and recruiting them into the organization of
armed groups. Besides breaking the Geneva
Conventions, those actions are in contradiction with one
of the principles of international humanitarian law, i.e.
the distinction principle. This paper discusses the legal
protection of children in armed conflict, in Syria, in
accordance with the Geneva Convention IV of 1949 and
the relevant regulations.
