Umat Islam semakin yakin bahwa model pendidikan Islam ideal adalah yang mampu mengasah kecerdasan pikiran sekaligus kesalehan spiritual Yang mampu menguasai ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi modern plus ilmu agama Islam yang memadai, Pada tingkat elementer pekerjaan itu bisa dilakukan oleh Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI), namun pada kenyataanya MI belum mampu mengemban tugas tersebut sehingga umat kemudian melirik SD Islam elit, Kepeloporan/keunggulan MI bisa muncul kembali bila dipupuk dengan tenaga pendidik professional kompeten, penguatan jejaring madrasah, dan optimalisasi yayasan atau organisasi keagamaan yang menjadi payung MI.
