Abstract

This article discusses community intervention strategies in promoting campus sustainability through the Eco Voice Ambassador Program at UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The program, part of the university’s SDGs-based community service initiative, engaged students as environmental change agents within the campus context. The study adopted a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach based on the seven-stage community intervention model by Isbandi Rukminto Adi and incorporated Jim Ife’s principles of socially just and sustainable community development. The results demonstrate that active student involvement across all stages from preparation to termination, played a vital role in shaping collective pro environmental behavior. The preparation stage enhanced capacity and multiparty collaboration; the assessment stage identified low environmental literacy yet high social potential among students; planning and action formulation produced a participatory, point-based digital campaign; program implementation recorded 347 validated eco friendly actions; evaluations showed significant increases in environmental awareness and student participation; while the termination phase facilitated the continuity of the initiative through student led local communities. These findings suggest that student-based participatory intervention is effective in cultivating a sustainability culture within higher education and may serve as a replicable model to support the achievement of SDGs, particularly Goal 12 (responsible consumption and production) and Goal 13 (climate action).
