About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Profetik: Jurnal Komunikasi publishes high-quality scholarly works in the field of communication and media studies with a distinctive emphasis on Islamic Media Studies and Prophetic Communication. The journal aims to advance theoretical, methodological, and empirical research that examines how communication practices shape and are shaped by religious values, social change, digital culture, and contemporary media systems.
The journal welcomes contributions that employ social-scientific, humanistic, or interdisciplinary approaches related to:

We particularly encourage research that integrates Islamic perspectives with modern communication theories, proposes conceptual innovations, or provides critical analyses of media practices in Muslim societies globally. Comparative, cross-cultural, and multi-method studies are also welcomed.
PJK welcomes scholarly works using social scientific or humanistic approaches on such topics as Islamic media studies, mass communication, prophetic communication, new communication technologies, journalism studies, media literacy, advertising, public relations and political communication.
Peer Review Process
The journal applies a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and scientific contribution of each manuscript. Only manuscripts that comply with the Profetik: Jurnal Komunikasi author guidelines and meet the journal’s scope are forwarded for review.
All submitted manuscripts undergo the following stages:

Initial Editorial Screening
The editorial board evaluates the manuscript for scope relevance, academic quality, and adherence to ethical standards. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be returned to the author without external review. -
Double-Blind Peer Review
Eligible manuscripts are reviewed by two independent reviewers with expertise relevant to the topic. Reviewer identities are concealed from authors, and author identities are concealed from reviewers. Reviewer profiles can be accessed at:

Reviewer Eligibility
Reviewers of Profetik: Jurnal Komunikasi are selected based on academic qualifications, research expertise, and proven contributions to the field of communication and social sciences. Reviewers must hold at least a master’s degree, have publications in reputable national or international journals, and demonstrate strong ethical and scholarly standards.

Recommendation and Appointment
The reviewer must be recommended by the editorial board and formally appointed by the Editor-in-Chief. -
Acceptance of Reviewer Duties
The reviewer must agree to and sign the Reviewer Declaration Form, which includes ethical review responsibilities and conflict-of-interest statements. -
Relevant Expertise
The reviewer must have expertise relevant to the journal’s focus and scope, specifically in communication studies, media studies, Islamic media studies, journalism, or related fields. -
Scholarly Track Record
The reviewer must have a verifiable record of academic publications (journal articles, books, or other scholarly works). -
Ethical Compliance
The reviewer must agree to comply with COPE’s Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers and with the publication standards of Profetik: Jurnal Komunikasi. -
Quality and Timeliness
The reviewer must provide a clear, constructive, and timely review report, written in accordance with the journal’s evaluation criteria. -
Confidentiality and Integrity
Reviewers must maintain strict confidentiality of all manuscripts and avoid using any information for personal research or advantage. -
Conflict of Interest
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflict of interest and decline assignments when necessary.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge and allows immediate access to the full text versions of the articles.
Publication Ethics
Profetik : Jurnal Komunikasi is a peer-reviewed journal, published biannually by Communication Science Department, State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. It is available online s open access sources.
This statement was adapted from the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and covers the code of ethics for chief editor, editorial board members, reviewers and authors.
Duties Of Chief Editor
- Evaluate manuscripts fairly and solely on their intellectual merit.
- Ensure confidentiality of manuscripts and not disclose any information regarding manuscripts to anyone other than the people involved in the publishing process.
- Has the responsibility to decide when and which articles are to be published.
- Actively seek the views of board members, reviewers and authors on how to improve/ increase the image and visibility of the journal.
- Give clear instructions to potential contributors on the submission process and what is expected of the authors.
- Ensure appropriate reviewers are selected/ identified for the reviewing process.
Duties Of Editorial Board Members
- Actively contribute to the development and the greater good of the journal.
- Act as ambassadors for the journal.
- Continuously support and promote the journal.
- Review any work assigned to them.
Duties of Reviewers
- Must disclose any competing interest before agreeing to review a submission.
- Can refuse to review any submission due to a conflict of interest or inadequate knowledge.
- Review all submissions objectively, fairly and professionally.
- Reveal any ethical misconduct encountered while reviewing to the Chief Editor for further action.
- Should ensure the originality of a submission and be alert to any plagiarism and redundant publication.
- Must not discuss the content of the submission without permission.
- Adhere to the time allocated for the review process. Requests for extension to review the submission is at the discretion of the Chief Editor.
Duties of Authors
- Have the responsibility of ensuring only new and original work is submitted.
- Must not reproduce work that has been previously published in other journals.
- Must not submit any articles that are being reviewed or considered by the journal to other journals simultaneously.
- Are only allowed to publish their work elsewhere after receiving a formal rejection from the journal or if their request to withdraw their work is officially accepted by the journal.
- Must inform the Chief Editor or the publisher of any inaccuracy of data in their published work so that correction or retraction of article can be done.
- Should make significant contributions and be held accountable for any shortcoming in their work.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. Submitted manuscripts should be the original works of the author(s). To Check the possibility of plagiarism manuscript is submitted using the aplication Plagiarism Software.
Duplicate (Redundant) Publication
Duplicate publication is publications of papers that overlaps substantially with one already published, without clear, visible references to the previous publication. Manuscript submission will be considered for publication only if they are submitted solely for this journal and do not overlap substantially with a published article. Any manuscript that has (near) similar hypothesis, sample characteristics, methodology, results, and conclusions to a published article is duplicate article and is prohibited, even if it is published in different languages. The slicing of data from a "single research" to make some individuals manuscript without substantial differences should be avoided.
Fabrication of Data
Fabrication, manipulation or falsification of data is an ethical violation and is prohibited.
Citations Manipulation
The only relevant citations are used in the manuscripts. Irrelevant (self) citation to increase author(s)'s citation (h-index) or unnecessary citation to improve the references are not allowed.
Intellectual Property Rights
Author(s) must obedient the law and/or ethics in treating the object of research and pay attention to the legality of material sources and intellectual property rights. Conflict of Interest and Source of Funding
Author(s) requires to acknowledge all sources of institutional, private and corporate financial support for the research within the manuscript, and note any potential conflicts of interest.
Authorship and Collaboration
Name of authors listed in a paper should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the report. Only those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the work must be acknowledged or listed as contributors. It is the duty of the corresponding author to ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper. All co-authors must approve the final version of the paper and agree to the version of the paper before submission.

Screening For Plagiarism and AI
All manuscripts submitted to Profetik: Jurnal Komunikasi must be original and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are fully responsible for the authenticity and integrity of the submitted work.
To ensure academic integrity, the journal performs the following checks:
1. Plagiarism Screening
All incoming manuscripts are screened using Turnitin similarity detection software.

A similarity index above the journal’s threshold (maximum 20%, excluding references) will result in revision or rejection.

Submissions containing plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or improper citation practices may be rejected immediately and may result in author sanctions.
2. AI-Generated Content Policy
The journal does not permit the use of generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Bard, Claude, Gemini, LLM-based systems) to produce:

Analysis,

Images, or
-
Figures.
Authors may use AI tools only for minor language editing or proofreading, and such use must be transparently declared in the manuscript under a statement such as:
“This manuscript involved the use of AI-assisted tools for language editing only. No AI tools were used to generate content, data, or analysis.”
Use of AI to fabricate citations, manipulate references, generate false data, or create the core scientific content is strictly prohibited and constitutes academic misconduct.
3. Sanctions
Any manuscript found to contain:

AI-generated material without disclosure, or

False citations
may be rejected at any stage of the editorial process. Severe violations may result in temporary or permanent author banning.
Journal History
Profetik: Jurnal Komunikasi is an academic journal focusing on communication science with a special emphasis on prophetic communication from an Islamic perspective. Since its establishment, the journal has aimed to integrate Islamic values with contemporary communication studies, covering various themes such as mass communication, media and religion, prophetic communication, journalism studies, new communication technologies, media literacy, advertising, public relations, and political communication.
The journal began publication in 2008 as a printed edition, published twice annually. In 2010, the journal obtained its ISSN (1979-2522), followed by an e-ISSN (2549-0168) in 2017.
Profetik: Jurnal Komunikasi has been accredited with Sinta 2 status based on the decree issued by The Director General of Research and Development of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia for 2019–2024 (SK Kemenristekdikti No. 10/E/KPT/2019).
The journal is currently indexed and abstracted in:
DOAJ, EBSCO, Google Scholar, Moraref, Copernicus, Garuda, Dimensions, Lens.org, Indonesia One Search, ISJD, Harvard Library, and several other indexing services.
