Ekoteologi dalam Tradisi Majupat: Kearifan Lokal Islam Kontekstual Masyarakat Kaliduren di Bulan Suro

Abstract

The global environmental crisis has stimulated the rise of ecotheology as a spiritual approach to enhance ecological awareness. This study explores the Majupat Tradition of Kaliduren Hamlet, Getasan, Semarang, as a contextual form of Islamic ecotheology that integrates Islamic values, Javanese cosmology, and local agrarian identity. The research applied a qualitative ethnographic method involving participant observation, in-depth interviews, and field documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles & Huberman interactive model with source triangulation. Findings reveal that Majupat consisting of shalat hajat, 41 recitations of Surah Yasin, 1,111 recitations of Ayat al-Kursi using corn kernels as counters, and the adhan directed toward the four cardinal points is not merely a religious ritual but a mechanism of re-sacralizing living space. It embodies the principles of tawhid, human stewardship (khalifah), and the resacralization of nature as emphasized by Seyyed Hossein Nasr, interwoven with the Javanese cosmology of papat kiblat lima pancer. Consequently, Majupat generates a place-based environmental ethic in which spirituality and ecology intertwine to maintain cosmic harmony and agrarian sustainability. This study concludes that Majupat can be positioned as a model of contextual Islamic ecotheology and a practical strategy for cultivating ecological awareness among Muslim communities. The study recommends integrating ecotheological values rooted in local traditions into religious education, environmental policies, and the strengthening of cultural identity.
