About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that aims to provide a reputable platform for scholarly research in the areas of legal comparative and legal thought, with a particular focus on State Law, Islamic Law, and Customary Law. The journal welcomes a wide range of research articles, including both normative-doctrinal and empirical studies, that contribute to the academic discourse in these fields.
The scope of Al-Mazaahib includes Legal Comparative or Legal Thought in the area of: Islamic Law, State Law, and Customary Law of Muslim comminities.
Peer Review Process
Research articles submitted to this journal will undergo a double-blind peer-review process. All research articles are reviewed by at least two qualified experts. Reviewers provide valuable scholarly comments to improve the content of the manuscript.
Double-Blind Peer Review
In the review process, the authors and reviewers do not know each other.
Policy of Reviewers:
- To provide comments and corrections in the manuscript
- To make a summary of the complete assessment sheet
- To provide clear suggestion or advice to the editor
- If the reviewer recommend "accepted" by the revision, describe clearly how the revisions should be made
- If the reviewer recommend "reject" it must provide an alternative journals or suggestion, so the prospect of "resubmission" or "submission" elsewhere will become possible
Several Parameters for Evaluating Manuscript:
- Are the data and information on the manuscript is a new and original?
- Does the manuscript can contribute significant to advancing science?
- Is a similar material has been published elsewhere?
- Is the substance of the manuscript more suitable in other journals?
- Does the reference current or up to date and completely mention on the manuscript?
- Methods part on the manuscript is align with the aim of research?
- The author presents the manuscript clearly and easy to be read?
- Are there any errors of fact and calculations?
- Are tables on the manuscript present data clearly and concisely?
- Are all necessary illustrations needed on the manuscript?
- Is the abstract written in concisely?
- Is the title of the manuscript can represent the content of manuscript?
- Is the grammar and spelling on the manuscript meet the standards?
Publication Frequency
Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum is published Twice per year. First number would be published on June and second would be on December
Open Access Policy
This is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. This is in accordance with the BOAI definition of open access.

All publications by Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukumis a peer-reviewed journal. This journal follows guidelines from Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) facing all aspects of publication ethics and, in particular, how to handle cases of research and publication misconduct. This statement clarifies ethical behaviour of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the Editor-in-Chief, the Editorial Board, the peer-reviewer and the publisher (Fakultas Syari’ah dan Hukum UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta). Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukumare dedicated to following best practices on ethical matters, errors and retractions. The prevention of publication malpractice is one of the important responsibilities of the editorial board. Any kind of unethical behavior is not acceptable, and the journals do not tolerate plagiarism in any form.
Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum adapts COPE to meet high quality standard of ethics for publisher, editors, authors, and reviewers. As an essential issue, publication ethics needs to be explained clearly to improve the quality of the research worldwide. In this part, we explain the standard for editors, authors, and reviewers. Publisher don’t have right to interfere with the integrity of the contents and only support to publish in timely manner.
For Editors
- Based on the review report of the editorial review board, the editor can accept, reject, or request modifications to the manuscript.
- Editors should be responsible for every articles published Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum
- The editors may communicate with other editors or reviewers in making the final decision.
- An editor has to evaluate the manuscript objectively for publication, judging each on its quality without looking to nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation of the authors. He/she should decline his/her assignment when there is a potential of conflict of interest.
- Editors need to ensure the document sent to the reviewer does not contain the information of the author, vice versa.
- Editors’ decision should be informed to authors accompanied by reviewers’ comments unless they contain offensive or libelous remarks.
- Editors should respect requests from authors that an individual should not review the submission, if these are well-reasoned and practicable.
- Editors and all staffs should guarantee the confidentiality of the submitted manuscript.
- Editors will be guided by COPE flowcharts if there is a suspected misconduct or disputed authorship.
For Reviewers
- Reviewers need to comment on ethical questions and possible research and publication misconduct.
- Reviewers will do the work in timely manner and should notify editor if they can not complete the work.
- Reviewers need to keep the confidentiality of the manuscript.
- Reviewers should not accept to review the manuscripts in which there is potential conflict of interest between them and any of the authors.
For Authors
- Author(s) affirm that the material has not been previously published and that they have not transferred elsewhere any rights to the article.
- Author(s) should ensure the originality of the work and they have properly cited others’ work in accordance of the references format.
- Author(s) should not engage in plagiarism nor self-plagiarism.
- Author(s) should ensure that they follow the authorship criteria that are taken from Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum that is explained in instruction for author of Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum
- Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. It is also expected that the author will not publish redundant manuscripts or manuscripts describing the same research in more than one journal.
- Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to conception, design, execution or interpretation of the reported study. Others who have made significant contribution must be listed as co-authors. Authors also ensure that all the authors have seen and agreed to the submitted version of the manuscript and their inclusion of names as co-authors.
- The author(s) haven’t suggested any personal information that may make the identity of the patient recognizable in any forms of description part, photograph or pedigree.
- Author(s) should give the editor the data and details of the work, if there are suspicions of data falsification or fabrication.
- If at any point of time, the author(s) discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in submitted manuscript, then the error or inaccuracy must be reported to the editor.
- Authors of the journal should clarify everything that may cause conflict of interests such as work, research expenses, consultant expenses, and intellectual property on the document of Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum form disclosure.

Duties of Publisher
Publisher have the commitment to ensure that commercial interest has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. Al-Mazaahib will assist in communications with other journals where this is useful to the authors. Al-Mazaahib is working closely with all related divisions to set standards for best practices on ethical matters, errors and retractions--and is prepared to provide specialized legal review and counsel if necessary.
- Al-Mazaahib is responsible to publish articles after the edit, peer-review, and layout process;
- Al-Mazaahib is full of responsible for academic freedom of the editors and reviewers;
- Al-Mazaahib is full of responsible for privacy, intellectual property, copyright, and editorial freedom.
Screening of Plagiarism
Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are not allowed. Authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript submitted to this journal is original work and plagiarism free. The authors should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
It is the editor’s routine procedure to run all submissions through plagiarism detection software. The result of manuscript screening should be under 25% of similarity. The editor has the right to decline the submission should it exceed the maximum similarity policy. Only manuscript that is free from plagiarism and academic malpractices will be processed for publication. Plagiarism screening will be conducted using Turnitin app.
Journal History
Al-Mazaahib: Jurnal Perbandingan Hukum is a peer reviewed jurnal published by The Departement of Islamic Law Schools Comparison, Sharia and Law Faculty, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. First printed publication in 2012 and the onilne version is available since 2017 by uploading previous printed documents on the website.
