Contemporary Quran is committed to maintaining full editorial independence in all aspects of its publication process. Editorial independence ensures that decisions regarding the selection, review, and publication of manuscripts are made solely on academic merit, without undue influence from the publisher, sponsors, or any external parties.
This policy is aligned with international standards and best practices, particularly those outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as well as publishing frameworks adopted by major academic publishers such as Elsevier and Springer Nature.
Principles of Editorial Independence
Editorial independence in Contemporary Quran is guided by the following principles:
- Editorial decisions are based solely on scholarly merit, originality, and relevance
- No external party may influence editorial decisions
- The editorial process is conducted fairly, transparently, and without discrimination
- Academic freedom is respected in all published works
The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board have full authority over editorial decisions, including acceptance, revision, or rejection of manuscripts. These decisions are based on peer review reports, editorial judgment, and the journal’s scope and standards.
Editorial decisions must not be influenced by commercial interests, institutional affiliations, or personal relationships.
The publisher, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought UIN Sunan Kalijaga, supports the journal’s editorial independence and does not interfere in editorial decisions.
Any financial or administrative support provided by the publisher must not influence the editorial process or publication outcomes.
Conflict of Interest Management
Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest, including personal, academic, or financial relationships with authors.
In such cases, an independent editor will be assigned to ensure an unbiased review process.
The peer review process is conducted independently and objectively using a double-blind review system. Reviewers are selected based on expertise and must provide unbiased, constructive evaluations.
Reviewers must not be influenced by external parties and must disclose any potential conflicts of interest.
Integrity of the Scholarly Record
Contemporary Quran is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. Editorial independence ensures that corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern are handled transparently and based on ethical considerations, in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Any attempt to interfere with editorial independence will be addressed in accordance with the journal’s ethical policies. Violations may result in rejection of manuscripts, removal from editorial roles, or other appropriate actions.
The journal adheres to COPE principles and aligns with international publishing standards to ensure editorial integrity and independence.
