Journal History

Contemporary Quran Journal is published by the Postgraduate of Qur’anic Studies and Tafsir Program at the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought, UIN (State Islamic University) Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta. This institution is among the oldest Islamic universities in Indonesia and has played a significant role in the development of Islamic studies, particularly in Qur’anic scholarship.

The development of Contemporary Quran Journal can be outlined as follows:

  1. The journal was first published in June 2021 and follows a biannual publication schedule, releasing issues in June and December each year.
  2. Since 2021, the journal has been accessible online through the Open Journal System (OJS) at https://ejournal.uin-suka.ac.id/ushuluddin/AJQH, and all published articles are assigned a unique Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
  3. Since 2021, all articles have been indexed and deposited in Portal Garuda to enhance visibility and accessibility at the national level.
  4. Since 2021, the journal has adopted a multilingual policy, publishing articles in Bahasa Indonesia, English, and Arabic to support broader academic engagement.
  5. Since 2024, the journal has established a collaboration with the Indonesian Qur’anic Studies Association (AIAT se-Indonesia), strengthening its academic network and scholarly contributions.
  6. Since 2025, the journal has been awarded national accreditation by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia, based on Decree No. 0173/C3/DT.05.00/2025 concerning the results of scientific journal accreditation Period I 2025.

Through these developments, Contemporary Quran Journal continues to strengthen its position as a reputable academic platform for contemporary Qur’anic studies at both national and international levels.
