The Contextualization of Hadith within the Socio-Cultural Realities of Indonesia Based on the Concept of Maqāṣid al-Sharīʿa

Abstract
The contextualization of hadith is essential for effectively applying its noble messages within the social realities of society. This study aims to elucidate a methodology for contextualizing hadith through a maqāṣid al-sharīʿa-based approach, facilitating the development of contextual interpretations that are pertinent to Indonesian society from the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharīʿa. Employing a qualitative research design with a descriptive analytical approach, the study draws upon various references and scholarly works on maqāṣid al-sharīʿa. These sources are analyzed, classified, and synthesized to formulate a method for hadith contextualization. The theoretical framework incorporates al-Shāṭibī’s theory of taʿlīl, al-Raysūnī’s theory of maṣlaḥa, and al-Qaraḍāwī’s theory concerning the objectives and means of textual interpretation. The findings indicate that maqāṣid al-sharīʿa plays a fundamental role in the contextualization of hadith, ensuring that the contextualized understanding of Indonesianness aligns with Islamic teachings and promotes societal welfare. The study identifies several maqāṣid-based contextualization theories, including the analysis of welfare objectives in hadith, interpretation of hadith grounded in contextual welfare, and the identification of substantive objectives alongside conditional means.
