Corrections Policy

Corrections & Retractions

The Journal of Business Management and Islamic Banking (JBMIB) is committed to maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record. The journal may publish corrections, retraction statements, addenda, expressions of concern, and other post-publication updates when necessary to address issues affecting published articles.

This policy applies to peer-reviewed research articles, review articles, and other published content where a post-publication update is warranted. Significant errors in supplementary materials, datasets, tables, figures, or other supporting information will be addressed in a manner consistent with the correction of errors in the main article.

Author Correction

An Author Correction may be issued when an important error introduced by the author(s) is identified after publication. Such errors may affect the accuracy, interpretation, or reliability of the article, the integrity of the scholarly record, or the reputation of the authors or the journal. The editorial team will assess the significance of the error and determine whether a formal correction is required.

Publisher Correction

A Publisher Correction may be issued when an important error introduced during the journal's editorial, production, or publication process affects the accuracy or integrity of the published article or the scholarly record. The journal will correct the error and provide a transparent notice describing the amendment where appropriate.

Addendum

An addendum may be published when significant additional information becomes available after publication and is necessary to improve readers' understanding of the article. An addendum should provide relevant clarification or supplementary information without improperly altering the original findings or conclusions.

Editor's Note or Expression of Concern

An Editor's Note or Expression of Concern may be published when questions arise regarding the reliability, accuracy, or ethical integrity of a published article and further assessment is required. This notice is intended to inform readers while the journal evaluates the concerns. It does not, by itself, constitute a final determination that the article is unreliable or that misconduct has occurred.

Retraction

An article may be retracted when the reliability or integrity of its findings is substantially undermined. Grounds for retraction may include, but are not limited to, major errors in research design, data collection, analysis, or reporting; unreliable or fabricated data; plagiarism; duplicate publication; unethical research practices; or other serious violations of research or publication ethics.

Retraction decisions will be made by the editorial team following an appropriate assessment of the available evidence and, where necessary, consultation with the authors, reviewers, institutions, or other relevant parties. Retraction notices will explain the reasons for retraction as clearly as possible and identify the affected article. The original article will remain accessible where appropriate but will be clearly marked as retracted to maintain transparency and preserve the scholarly record.

Where feasible, the retraction notice will be linked to the original article, and the original article will link back to the notice. The notice may indicate whether the authors agree or disagree with the retraction. An author's disagreement will not, by itself, prevent the journal from retracting an article when the evidence justifies that decision.

Correction Procedures and Transparency

When a correction is approved, JBMIB will publish a notice explaining the nature of the error and the changes made. Where technically and practically possible, the corrected article and the correction notice will be linked to each other. Corrections will be made transparently, without obscuring the fact that a change has been made to the published record.

If changes affect data presented in figures, tables, or the main text, the correction notice will describe the relevant changes and provide sufficient information for readers to understand their significance. Where appropriate and feasible, the original information may also be presented to support transparency.

If it is not technically or practically possible to revise the original article, the article may remain unchanged while being linked to a separate correction notice. The editorial team will determine the most appropriate approach based on the nature of the error, the publication format, and the need to preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Submitting Concerns

Readers, authors, and other interested parties who identify a potential error or concern regarding a published JBMIB article may contact the editorial office through the contact information provided on the journal website. Submissions should identify the article concerned and provide a clear explanation of the issue, supported by relevant evidence where available.

All concerns will be assessed fairly and confidentially as appropriate. Allegations of research or publication misconduct will be handled in accordance with the journal's Allegations of Research Misconduct policy. The editorial team will determine whether a correction, addendum, Editor's Note, Expression of Concern, retraction, or no further action is warranted.

Guiding Principles

JBMIB aims to handle corrections and retractions in accordance with recognized publication ethics standards, including relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Decisions will be guided by the principles of fairness, transparency, accountability, and the preservation of the scholarly record.
