Withdrawal Policy

Manuscript Withdrawal Policy

Jurnal Studi Ilmu-ilmu al-Qur'an dan Hadis

Faculty of Ushuluddin and Islamic Thought, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta

1. Purpose

Jurnal Studi Ilmu-ilmu al-Qur'an dan Hadis recognizes that authors may sometimes need to withdraw a manuscript. This policy explains when withdrawal may be requested, how authors should submit a request, and how the journal handles withdrawal fairly while protecting the integrity of peer review and editorial work.

Withdrawal should be requested only for valid reasons. Authors are expected to respect the time and work of editors and reviewers, especially after a manuscript has entered peer review, revision, acceptance, or production.

2. Withdrawal Before Peer Review

Authors may request withdrawal before the manuscript enters peer review by sending a written request to the editorial office. The request should include the manuscript title, the names of all authors, the reason for withdrawal, and confirmation that all authors agree.

If the manuscript has not yet been assigned for review, the editorial office will normally approve the request and record the withdrawal in the journal system. The manuscript should not be submitted elsewhere until the withdrawal has been confirmed by the journal.

3. Withdrawal During Review or After Acceptance

Withdrawal after peer review has begun requires a clear and valid reason, such as a serious authorship dispute, discovery of a major error, ethical concern, duplicate submission made in error, or a circumstance that affects the integrity of the manuscript. The corresponding author must provide a written explanation and confirm that all authors agree.

Withdrawal after acceptance, copyediting, layout, or publication scheduling is considered exceptional because editorial, reviewer, and production resources have already been used. The editor-in-chief may consult the editorial board before deciding whether the request can be approved.

4. Unacceptable Reasons for Withdrawal

The journal does not consider withdrawal appropriate when authors simply wish to submit the same manuscript to another journal, avoid responding to reviewer comments, bypass an unfavorable editorial decision, or move an accepted manuscript to another publication venue. If such conduct involves duplicate submission, misleading communication, or misuse of the peer-review process, it may be treated as a publication ethics concern.

5. Withdrawal by the Journal

The journal may withdraw a manuscript from consideration if authors fail to respond to editorial communication, required documents are not provided, authorship disputes remain unresolved, the manuscript is found to be under review elsewhere, serious ethical concerns arise, or authors attempt to manipulate the editorial process.

When the journal withdraws a manuscript, the editorial office will record the reason and notify the corresponding author. In serious cases, the journal may take further action according to its Publication Ethics and Editorial Integrity Policy.

6. Contact

Withdrawal requests must be sent to jurnalqurdis@uin-suka.ac.id by the corresponding author. The request must state that all authors have been informed and agree to the withdrawal.
