About the Journal
Aim and Scope
Jurnal Sosiologi Reflektif (JSR) focuses on disseminating original empirical research on social and religious issues within Muslim societies, particularly those related to strengthening civil society across various dimensions.
Additionally, JSR welcomes literature review articles aimed at developing sociological theories through integration with Islamic Studies, including discourses on prophetic social sciences and other related perspectives.
JSR also invites academics to write critical book reviews on topics related to Sociology. Books should cover themes relevant to the field, such as new approaches in Sociology or current issues in the discipline.
Journal History
Jurnal Sosiologi Reflektif (JSR) was published in 2006 (Vol. 1 No.1, October). The purpose of the first publication of JSR was to provide a journal for lecturers at UIN Sunan Kalijaga, particularly in the Sociology Study Program, and record traces of the development of sociological theories that were very dynamic. In 2013, JSR started publishing one (1) up to two (2) articles in English, furthermore in 2017 JSR has been indexed by DOAJ and has started to recruit more reviewers and editors from other countries.
In 2022, the website design theme of Jurnal Sosiologi Reflektif (JSR) was authentically created. All visual elements—including the color scheme, layout structure, feature design, and logo—were independently developed to reflect the unique philosophy and identity of JSR. If there are similarities in the appearance of other journals that emerged afterward, it is highly likely that those journals have adapted or imitated elements of the design that are the original and authentic property of JSR.
In 2024, Jurnal Sosiologi Reflektif (JSR) rolled out several key updates, including an expansion of its aims and scope to include book reviews. The templates for articles and book reviews were redesigned to be more informative, along with revisions to various aspects of the author guidelines.
A significant development in 2024 was the change in JSR’s leadership. In December, Dr. Astri Hanjarwati, M.A., was appointed Editor-in-Chief, succeeding the late Achmad Zainal Arifin, Ph.D., who sadly passed away earlier that year.
Peer-Review Process
Jurnal Sosiologi Reflektif (JSR) maintains high editorial standards through an initial pre-review assessment followed by a double-blind peer review process to ensure the academic quality, integrity, and scholarly merit of manuscripts submitted for publication.
1.Pre-Review
Original Empirical Research and Review Article
The Editor-in-Chief assigns the Managing Editor to conduct an initial assessment (pre-review) of submitted manuscripts to determine whether their content aligns with the journal's Aim and Scope and complies with the Author Guidelines and manuscript template.
If a submission does not meet these requirements, the Managing Editor will request revisions and specify a deadline for their submission. Manuscripts that meet the requirements, either upon initial submission or following revision, will proceed to the peer review stage.
Submissions will be rejected if authors fail to respond to revision requests after receiving two reminders.
The peer review process is coordinated by the Managing Editor. In exceptional cases, manuscripts addressing specialized topics may be assigned to a member of the Editorial Team whose expertise aligns with the subject matter.
Book Review
Book review submissions are handled by the Book Review Editor, who assesses their alignment with the journal's Aim and Scope, and Author Guidelines. Submissions that meet these requirements will proceed to the peer review stage.
2.Reviewers
