Waiver Policy
Jurnal Pendidikan Islam (JPI) applies an APC for accepted articles. No submission fee is charged. Editorial and peer-review decisions are independent of authors’ ability to pay. Editors and reviewers are blinded to any waiver requests and payment status.
1. Eligibility
JPI considers automatic and case-by-case waivers/discounts:
-
Country-based support (per World Bank classification at the time of request)
-
Low-Income economies (LIC): Full waiver (100%).
-
Lower-Middle-Income economies (LMIC): Partial waiver (typically 50%).
-
-
Need-based support (case-by-case)
-
Unfunded research or authors without institutional/funder support.
-
Early-career researchers (≤5 years since highest degree) with limited funding.
-
Exceptional circumstances (force majeure, institutional/fieldwork disruptions).
-
Notes. (a) Eligibility is normally assessed by the corresponding author’s primary affiliation/country; justified exceptions may be considered (e.g., majority of authors from LIC/LMIC). (b) Waivers apply only to APC and do not cover optional third-party services (language editing, artwork, print).
2. What the waiver covers
-
Covers: the APC for the accepted article (full or partial, as granted).
-
Does not cover: optional third-party services, reprints/print-on-demand, or costs outside the APC.
3. How to request
-
When: Submit a waiver request after submission and before invoicing/acceptance confirmation.
-
How: Email the journal office (see Contact on the website) with:
-
Manuscript ID, title, and article type
-
Corresponding author’s name, affiliation, and country
-
Funding statement (including grant numbers if applicable)
-
Basis for request (country-based and/or need-based) with a brief justification (≤300 words)
-
-
Documentation: JPI may request supporting documents (e.g., confirmation of unfunded status).
4. Decision & timelines
-
Acknowledgement: within 3 business days.
-
Decision: typically within 10 business days.
-
Confidentiality: waiver data are handled by the journal office and are not shared with editors/reviewers.
-
Validity: a granted waiver is valid for 90 days from decision (extensions considered upon request).
5. Appeals
Authors may appeal a waiver decision once by providing additional information. Appeals are reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief or a delegated independent editor within 10 business days. Appeals do not affect editorial outcomes.
6. Limitations
-
Waivers/discounts cannot exceed 100% of the APC and are generally not cumulative with other discounts.

Requests cannot be granted retroactively after invoice payment.
